Getting Ready to Start Body Beast

So, I am getting ready to start a new workout program.  It is called Body Beast.  Check it out here.

The Program is designed to increase strength and help you build muscle.  Most of the people that have gone through the program report gains of at least 10lbs of muscle.  One of the reasons I really am looking forward to this program is that you get to EAT.  In order to pack on all that muscle you need to fuel your body.  I haven't looked over the nutrition plan yet but from what i hear, you get to eat around 3000-4000 calories per day.  That's what I'm talking about!  Keep in mind that it is not empty calories.  You still need to make smart choices when it comes to your nutrition on this plan.  You can't just grab a bag of Cheetos and go wild.  In addition to eating healthy and LIFTING LIKE A BEAST....I am also going to take advantage of the Body Beast Supplements.

The Equiment needed to complete the program are as follows.

Dumbbells or Resistance Bands

A Bench or Swiss Ball

Chin up Bar or Bands

EZ Curl Bar or Bands

Optional Equipment

         -Push Up Power Stands

-Chin Up Max (Chin up helper)

          -Lifting Gloves

To order the BODY BEAST program Click Here.

The program is 90 days long 6 days a week and the workouts are around 45 minutes long.  Here are some other videos about the program.

As Stephanie Tanner would say, "How Rude!"

It has amazed me my entire life how people so openly comment on my weight. It probably started when I was in Junior High. A lot of girls around me developed quicker (okay who am I kidding I don't know if I ever did develop-ha ha). I felt really self-conscious about my weight back then because I was so all bones and no shape like other girls. Finally when I was about a sophomore in high school I gained some weight. Immediately girls started making comments about how I had gotten "fat". I finally grew into my body and before I knew it I had graduated high school and had put on the famous freshman fifteen. I felt like it was a never ending battle about either being too skinny or not skinny enough. It didn't help that everyone around me had a comment about it.

Before I got pregnant I was at my lowest weight but probably my best shape ever. However, a lot of people kept telling me that I looked too thin. I was so excited when I started packing on the pounds immediately when I got pregnant. I thought, "good! now that I am gaining weight people will be happy". To my dismay, it was the opposite. I remember going into the doctor's office and him politely telling me that I was "ahead of schedule" with my weight gain. After the appointment I went to the car and cried. At that moment it hit me that I would never be able to please anyone. I was either going to get criticized for being too thin or being too "fat". Throughout my pregnancy I couldn't believe the comments people would tell me. Even complete strangers. One minute someone would say, "Wow! You are seven months pregnant?! You look like you are only a couple months pregnant" and then literally an hour later someone different would say "Wow-you are really filling out".  It amazed me how night and day the opinions were...it really messed with my head. I just wanted to be healthy and have a healthy baby.

Last week (the day I had already planned on starting Turbo Fire) I was at work and a complete stranger came up to me and put her hand on my belly and said "Awww...you are expecting?" I couldn't believe that she was so bold to do that. I gracefully told her that I had just had a baby a couple months ago.

My point to this story is that there comes a time when you have to block out the voices and the opinions and worry about how YOU feel inside. The important thing is that you are healthy and feel confident. You are never going to please everyone. This is a lesson that I am learning and continuing to learn every day.  I guess I have always tried to live with the old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all". Unfortunately, I don't think everyone got that memo.

The Best Time of Day to Workout-Exercising in the Morning vs. At Night

Everyone has their own opinions on when the best time of day is to workout or exercise.  The article below explains the benefits of early morning exercise and evening exercising.  It truly is very subjective.  Dependent on your personality, your schedule, and many other things.  My best advice is to stick to a time that will allow you to make it a habit or routine.  If you can workout only from 6-7pm then make that your workout hour each night.  Also take into consideration a time that will allow you to give 100%.  I know that my morning workouts lack enthusiasm and are usually cut short.  I simply cannot drag myself outta bed early in the morning and get my mind to focus.  I've tried it and it just doesn't work for me.  My best time to workout is anytime after 2pm it seems.  On weekends I have the flexibility to be able to workout earlier in the evening, which I prefer.  On weekdays I have to wait until after I get off work and mentally prepare myself for the workout, and I end up workout out around 6:30pm.  The moral of the story is...find the time that works best for you, a time that you can be totally focused and 100% committed to your workout.  You will see better results and feel like you are making the most of your time.  Plus if you are like me, you get to sleep in.

If you’re looking to finally get healthy, I CAN HELP! That’s what I do, and I’d love to help you reach your fitness goals. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at dhaywood50@gmail.com  Also you can sign up below for a free account to make me your coach.

No Bake Energy Bites

I usually spend Sundays preparing some healthy snacks for the week. If I am not armed with healthy snacks I end up eating whatever is in front of me. Today I cut-up some strawberries and added some blueberries and raspberries into small containers to take to work this week. I also made some Shakeology Protein Bites.   My husband loves them and has already eaten half of the batch. If you would like to make them check this out!

No Bake Energy Bites:
1 Cup Oatmeal (I used steal cut oats)
1/2 cup peanut butter (I like to use crunchy)
1/3 Cup Honey
1 cup coconut flakes (I leave these out)
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1 scoop Chocoloate Shakeoogy
1 twp vanilla

Mix all together in a bowel and form into balls and store and chill in the fridge.

Delicious No Bake Energy Bites

My wife made the best tasting no bake energy bites recently. They are super easy to make and taste great.

Here is our recipe:

1 cup Steel cut oats (or oatmeal)
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
1/3 cup Honey
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology
1 tsp vanilla
Mix together in a large bowl & Form into balls

Store in Fridge or Freezer.

Once you have made them into balls you can eat them right away (like I do) or you can let them set in the fridge or freezer.

They are delicious and super healthy.  I love to just grab a few for a snack or as pre-workout fuel.

Week One Down-Turbo Fire

I made it! One week down into my Turbo Fire Workout. Can't wait to have a body like Chalene's! I was amazed that even working full-time I still had plenty of time to work-out and spend quality time with my baby and husband. I even managed to squeeze in some much needed girl time with my friends this week. It is all about prioritizing. Some days instead of sleeping in an extra hour I got up while the baby was still sleeping so that I could workout. I also cut out some T.V time and other things that wasted my time. I'm excited to see what next week brings!

Losing Post Baby Weight-I Want To Zip My Pants

I couldn't wait to start TurboFire because I wanted to lose my post baby weight. I just want to be able to zip my pants. I had done Chalene's other programs and loved them. However, I had to wait for the clear from the doctor after my C-section. Finally after nine weeks I was able to start working out. I wasn't quite sure how I could balance working full time, having a new born, and working out.  However, three days into the challenge, I have managed to make it work and I am already feeling great about it.  They say it takes 21 days to make something a habit so I am hoping that it will get easier after that. If you want to join me on my quest to zip up my pants; you can make me your coach for free, by clicking here and signing up.  That way I can help you with any questions you may have.

Shakeology For New Moms

Shakeology for New Moms

I wanted to write this post and talk about the benefits of Shakeology for new moms.  When I decided to get pregnant I was at my smallest weight and best shape ever. I had been doing Turbo Jam and Chalean Extreme, running, and aerobics. I tried to stick with aerobics and running but I finally had to quit and just do light walking during my last few months of pregnancy because my feet and ankles hurt and began swelling.

I was sure I could bounce right back into working out soon after I had my daughter but I ended up having to have a C-section. Therefore, I wasn't allowed to do any type of exercising until nine weeks after having her. I was left doing a lot of sitting on the couch and nursing (I had decided to breastfeed).  Thank goodness my husband had discovered Shakeology.

Two weeks after I had our baby he went back to work and I was left not able to move around very well with a newborn. I didn't have time or energy to make any food, go to the grocery store, or think of anything healthy to make. However, I felt like I owed it to my daughter to provide the best nutrients possible since I was nursing. Every morning before my husband would leave for work he would make me a Shakeology shake for breakfast. I was amazed at how full I felt and how much energy I had. I wasn't usually hungry for another four hours or so. I also felt confident that even if I ate crappy (or didn't have time to eat) the rest of the day that I had at least one wholesome meal that day. Between burning calories by breastfeeding and drinking Shakeology, I dropped around thirty pounds in a month. Even though I am back to work and moving around better I still have to start every day with my Shakeology.

Trans Fats-Avoid Them Like The Plague

Here is some great info taken from Joel Marion's Transformation Insider email newsletter about Trans Fats.

"I'm surprised that there's still a LOT of folks out there who don't know that this stuff is pure poison.
Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils.
This ingredient is the code name for "trans-fats" and it runs rampant in fried foods and packaged goods...it also has been closely linked to these conditions:
Heart Disease...
High Cholesterol...
Alzheimer Disease...
High Blood Pressure...
Stroke...
And how about this one? DEATH.
And that's even by consuming just a small amount daily.
What foods most commonly contain trans fats? Here are some of the most common:
French Fries - 14.5 grams of trans fat in the average medium sized order of french fries! Eat that every day and you won't be living long. Go with baked sweet potato fries instead.
Margarine and Vegetable Shortening - Anywhere from 30 - 40% trans fat...no thank you! Go with organic butter instead.
Fast Food - An original chicken dinner at KFC will reward you with 7 grams of trans fat, but it's not just the fried foods...it's even in the desserts! You'll find trans fat in almost all heavily processed foods, and there's very few foods more processed than fast food!
If you want a quick meal on the go that isn't full of trans fats, go with my fav "quick service" joint as of late, Chipotle. A full meal including hormone free meats, fiber rich legumes, and a bunch of tasty, low-calorie topping choices...all for less than $7. Can't go wrong with that!
Donuts and other baked goods - BAD. Trans fat often in the batter and dough and then many times fried on top of it! This includes cookies, pastries, muffins, brownies, and just about every other baked good you can think of. Instead, go with true "baked" baked goods (not fried) and try some of the gluten-free varieties to avoid the wheat on top of it. We just tried a gluten free brownie mix made with rice flour and a pretty healty ingredient profile...not bad for a sweet treat every so often!
Cereal (even most "healthy" varieties) - For example, Post Selects "Great Grains" contains 2 grams of trans fat per cup. NOT so healthy. Go with old fashioned oatmeal instead, or a true sprouted grain cereal that doesn't contain processed wheat.
Salad Dressings - Notorious for containing loads of partially hydrogenated oils and trans fat, stear clear of most store-bought salad dressings. Instead go with a homemade recipe that calls for extra virgin olive oil at the base.
And there are a bunch of others, but those are some of the biggest culprits. Again, read your labels and make sure you avoid partially hydrogenated and hydrogenated oils like the plague."

Suck It Cancer!

Tell Cancer to suck it by using natural holistic methods to prevent and/or cure the savage disease.  I have never personally had cancer and I pray that it never happens.  However, if I am ever that unlucky, I will not be doing chemo therapy.  In the documentary "Food Matters"  they discuss how nutrition can, and has cured cancer.  The way I understand it, chemo therapy is designed to kill cells.  Fact: chemo therapy kills cancer cells.  Lesser Known Fact:  chemo therapy also kills normal/healthy cells.  The problem is that once most cancer patients who have taken chemo have been cleared and told that they are cancer free, it almost always comes back worse within 5 years.  Cancer naturally exists in everyones bodies, but our immune systems are able to fight it off naturally when they are functioning correctly.  After chemo, even healthy cells are damaged or destroyed and their abilities to fight off mean old cancer are diminished leaving the individual basically helpless.  Some might claim that it is a conspiracy that the drug companies and oncology specialists are just in it for the money and to get people to pay for the really expensive treatments.  The fact of the matter is that most people are just ignorant to the concept that nutrition can cure diseases.  They mean no harm and are in fact mostly caring people who really do want to help the cancer patients out.  They just have not been educated in this new type of thinking.  I recommend everyone watch this documentary and learn from it.
